ah that's cool! I feel bad picking on the pensions research here, because the report is very valuable- both her and Andy (the previous gen sec) have genuine expertise in welfare- and I understand that you need funding for research BUT my god is it jarring to open the Fabian soc website and the biggest thing I see is about pensioners.... Read the room!!!!
Brilliant and vividly informative, as always. As a political layperson, I've only ever heard of the Fabians as a vague background society without any of the verve, charisma or fascination they should be owning and showing off.
thank you :-) They are not super well known but I feel like our background is interesting, and just because there are some dark aspects to it (for example I think there were Fabians in the past who were eugenicists) that doesn't mean that should be concealed. We learn from the past, institutional memory is important.
I am so with you on the social media point. It is so hard for a young person to find out about any events the Fabians do because you have to be apart of some secret mail chain.
Also, I often think about when Ed Miliband announced his engagement and the daily mail ran a series of articles guessing which recent Fabian society pamphlet he had proposed to his wife whilst reading. We used to be glorious!!
In the US the political think tanks are cleaning up, we should copy them. Here it’s barely any that do but ASI are quite good for their tiny size. But I have heard the complaint about the events being hard to find from many people.
Re Fabian staffers, Sasjkia Otto is doing some very interesting work on AI & the world of work.

Plus online mobilisation is something no many other think tanks have aced yet either so we can easily get ahead on that.
