"There are two types of people in media and politics. People who delude others and people who delude themselves."

As always, underneath the humour, Stella be spitting hard truths.

The two types can inhabit the same person … the biggest delusion being that they are engaged in a search for the truth.

Are UK politicians and staffers mostly drunks? I am sure that US journalists would pay for the drinks of alcoholic politicians and staffers to gain access and information if it worked.

Its not about exploitation, professionalism or immorality, it's a smear campaign against RFK Jnr from those running scared ...

I thought the photo was Kate Winslet.

US male politicians like RFK Jr are a sleazy bunch. Shame on him. I'm so sick of sexual depravity and the embrace and glorification of porn culture. Won't get my vote ever.

As far as Olivia's critics, you can bet the red pill "manosphere" will be dishing all sundry of insults and claiming this is why "women can't be trusted".

My favourite part of the story is a man in his 60s coming out to say he also dated her when she was 21 and he was in his 50s as evidence of her seductive nature and taste for older men, completely unaware of what that makes him sound like.

While she might be particularly capable of explaining the appeal of RFK, I think disclosure of her relationship is a pretty important part of journalistic ethics.

Once you've crossed the line to actually sending nudes I think it's fair to say that you think there is some kind of personal relationship there and we treat people we have those relationships with very differently. It's the same reason the major NPR SCOTUS reporter got dragged for not reporting her friendship with RBG.

Not to mention the mere fact that RFK could tell someone about their flirty texts if she publishes something that makes him angry is surely relevant (you may not object to it but obviously it's bad for her career).

Is it the case that this is the only way journalists can be influenced or that there aren't important influences like continued access that don't get disclosed? Of course.

But rules for disclosure are like rules against drunk driving. The mere fact that there might be things that aren't against the rules that are equally bad isn't the point. What matters is balancing costs against benefits. There isn't much cost imo to require journalists to disclose sexual relationships -- be it phone sex or real sex -- while some other kinds of disclosure can't be easily mandated.
